Livingston & Rio Dulce Guatemala
Livingston is the name of a town in Izabal Department, eastern Guatemala, at the mouth of the Río Dulce at the Gulf of Honduras. Livingston was Guatemala's main port on the Caribbean Sea before the construction of nearby Puerto Barrios.
Livingston has a unique mix of Garifuna, Mayan Indian and Ladino people and cultures. The Garifuna are an ethnic group of mixed ancestry who live primarily in Central America. Livingston has developed a brisk tourist industry in recent years and is know for it's Carriebean feel and vibe.
It is impossible to travel in and out of Livingston by car since there are no connecting roads to the town. There are boat which run several times a day from Puerto Barrios and Rio Dulce. The is also a boat that runs 2 or 3 times a week to/from Punta Gordo, Belize.
