Antigua, Guatemala
Located about 40 minutes by shuttle from Guatemala City, Antigua is a wonderful place to visit. Because of its proximity to Guatemala City, Antigua also serves as a convenient starting or ending point for your trip. Just make sure to schedule yourself plenty of time to walk around because Antigua is a beautifully reconstructed colonial city with everything a traveler will need or want.
Market Day: Monday, Thursday & Saturday

If you stay in Antigua do not miss the opportunity to climb Volcano Pacaya. Pacaya is an active volcano in Guatemala and rises to an elevation of 2,552 meters (8,373 ft). After being dormant for a century, it erupted violently in 1965 and has been erupting continuously since then.
The tours to Pacaya leave each morning at 6am from any hotel or guest house in Antigua. They drive you approximately 1 hour to the entrance of the park where you begin your climb. It takes about 2 hours of hiking until you reach the lava fields where you will see and feel a live lava flow. This is a must see in our opinion! Tours Cost: $10.00 USD.
