Buses in Guatemala

The easiest and most comfortable way to travel between the Capitol City of Guatemala and Quetzaltenango is by 1st class Pullman bus.

Linea Dorada &  Fuente del Norte tend to offer better Pullman service with working bathrooms, aire conditioning and for security reasons they have decide to run a direct bus service. Meaning Station to Station NO stops. You can buy tickets at the station in Xela or Guate. One way cost approx: Q80 to Q100/person = $10.00 to $12.00 USD.

Alamo also run Pullman style buses on the daily schedules below, however, their buses do not have bathrooms and they stop along the way to pickup and let people off. One way cost: Q80/person = $10.00

Climb Volcanoes
Santa Maria, Santiaguito

The city of Quetzaltenango “Xela” sits at the base of the 3,772 m/(12,375 ft) Santa María volcano.  One of the most popular treks is to climb Santa María and watch the eruption of the Santiaguito dome.  These eruptions happen regularly and are generally small. However, recently we are seeing large and some extremely large eruptions. This volcano is one of the most active in the world today.

Hikes to the summit of Santa María can be booked with any one of the many agencies in Xela.  Typical cost for the hike is Q300 to Q600 depending on if you go to the summit and spend the night or just hike to the Mirador which is a look out point where you can watch eruptions.
